It was another exciting and memorable year in the Library at Lincoln School this year! Coordinating literature to the newer curriculum was a major goal for us in both non-fiction as well as fiction in the library. Many instructional units were tied together with new materials we have purchased for the library. It was great to be able to provide this support through literature with the curriculum.

Our library’s two best programs this year were Book Match and Monarch. The 4th and 5th graders had a marvelous time competing against their peers in Book Match. The number of titles that were read was beyond any previous years. The success and sense of accomplishment seen on the students’ faces was very rewarding.
The kindergarteners through 3rd graders were all involved with voting for the Monarch Title winner. They spent months reading the titles from the list and evaluating the picture books. Voting day was very exciting in the library. Each student voted and they were anxious to hear the results.

We were honored this year to have Steven Kellogg, Author / Illustrator, come to our school. Thanks to the Foundation and our PTA, we were able to host Steven for an entire day allowing each and every student the opportunity to see his presentation and benefit from listening to an author and absorb what it’s like to become a writer and/or illustrator. We also hosted a storyteller, Elizabeth Ellis. She was fantastic! All the Lincoln students heard stories from her throughout the day and the feedback was overwhelming. We appreciate these enrichment opportunities and give many thanks to the Lincoln PTA for supporting these activities.
